Cadbury's Joy Shop Sale Brings
Joy And Happiness To Malaysians

PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA – September 9, 2014

Cadbury Malaysia raises the bar on chocolate indulgence

Malaysians' love affair with chocolate is no secret! Chocolate lovers were in for a treat as Cadbury Malaysia organised the nation's first ever Joy Shop Sale at Centro Mall, Klang from 5th to 7th September, 2014. With a great selection of Cadbury chocolates and the upcoming holidays and gifting, this assortment was just in time for families to spread the joy among their loved ones.

Chocolate lovers found something to indulge in with a broad range of treats at the Joy Shop — with Cadbury Dairy Milk, Cadbury Zip and other tasty delights, the three day extravaganza rewarded consumers not only with great flavours of high-quality chocolates but at excellent value with up to 70% discount. The Joy Shop Sale saw over 7,000 consumers treat themselves to the happiness that Cadbury chocolate evokes.

Zahra Syafiq, a mother of four said: "he love we have for Cadbury spans generations, where I remember each family member having their own favourite flavour. Whether it is the famous Cadbury Dairy Milk or Black Forest, the different variety of flavours brings back fond memories of me and my family sharing special moments. Cadbury chocolates have been an integral part of my family festivities and my birthday celebrations are incomplete without it."

Family togetherness and joyful moments are the foundation upon which Cadbury created the nation's first Joy Shop Sale. Cadbury's journey of delivering the great taste that Malaysians have grown up with and loved for the past 40 years, along with some exciting new additions to share with friends and family, has long been the brand's promise.

"For us, it's another way of bringing Joy to our consumers through our delicious chocolate. By visiting the Cadbury Joy Shop Sale, consumers were able to choose Cadbury’s delicious gifts and cross items off of their shopping checklists all at the same time. This year has been particularly tough for Malaysia and we at Cadbury wanted to rekindle moments of joy by creating a one-stop Joy Shop for consumers to purchase their favourite Cadbury chocolate," said Tan Chian Pang, Head of Chocolate, Cadbury Malaysia.

"The event was only possible because of our consumers who trust and believe in Cadbury's brand values and quality chocolates. We are very proud of our chocolates and are overwhelmed with the number of Malaysian families who supported Cadbury’s Joy Shop Sale," he added.

Consumers from around Klang Valley came to Cadbury’s Joy Shop Sale to splurge and enjoy Cadbury chocolates. Each one of them were on the lookout for their favourite Cadbury chocolate flavour and did not hesitate to share this moment with their loved ones, be it family or friends.

Rani Indrani, a homemaker in her 30s said: "My husband is absolutely in love with Cadbury, and it has become a weekly staple for all of us. At one point, we as a family would visit the grocery stores and hoard all our Cadbury favourites and look forward to sharing our new delicious treats with our children. This ritual alone has made us the biggest fans of Cadbury chocolates."

Cadbury Malaysia Plant Opens Doors to Religious Leaders

SHAH ALAM, MALAYSIA – July 23, 2014

Cadbury addresses the Halal concerns of Malaysian consumers with visit from Malaysia’s religious leaders

Cadbury Malaysia today, for the first time in over 40 years, opened its doors to invite a panel of religious leaders and scholars to their manufacturing plant at Shah Alam.

In the last couple of months, Malaysians have been wrought with anxiety and doubt about the Halal status of Cadbury Chocolates.

The religious leaders invited, are veterans in Islamic teachings and are among Malaysia’s most respected Islamic voices. Cadbury Malaysia facilitated the tour for:

  • Al Fadil YBhg Dato' Nooh Gadot, Former Mufti of Johor and Johor Religious Council
  • Ustaz Haji Mohd Shukri bin Ali, Former Religious Official to HRH The Sultan Terengganu’s Palace (Currently on study vacation)
  • Ustaz Dr. Hj. Zaharuddin Hj. Abd. Rahman, President, Multaqa Asatizah & Du'at Kesatuan Ilmuwan Islam and Pendakwah

The session was also attended by YBhg Dato’ Dr Maamor bin Osman, Secretary General of Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia.

The religious leaders were taken on a tour of the manufacturing and supply chain processes. They also witnessed first-hand, the steps of the Halal certification process that allows Cadbury chocolates made and sold in Malaysia to be certified halal. The religious leaders also met with Cadbury’s Internal Halal Committee as well as the Plant Manager at the Shah Alam manufacturing plant.

As part of the factory visit, the religious authorities viewed the entire production chain including ingredients, processing flow, equipment and storage. They also viewed the robust quality checks that are built in at the end of the production process before the products are shared with consumers.

"The supply chain process when producing chocolates can be an intricate process and that is what we learnt from today’s visit," said Al Fadil YBhg Dato' Nooh Gadot. "More importantly, quality and hygiene should be held to the highest standards and it’s safe to say that chocolate production in Cadbury adheres to the strictest hygiene, quality and safety standards. We found that the company dedicates enormous effort, research, time and resources to ensure that all products made in Malaysia are Halal inspected and approved."

"We recognised that the entire Cadbury fiasco has caused much distress and anxiety to Malaysian consumers on the Halal status of the Cadbury chocolates in Malaysia. However, some of the extreme reactions were unnecessary. We believe in practicing moderation in our behaviour and should trust the country's highest Halal authority, JAKIM. As a concerned citizen in Malaysia, the factory visit was imperative for me and my fellow leaders to clear the air and relay to consumers the stringent production processes followed by the company." said Ustaz Haji Mohd Shukri bin Ali.

"Cadbury's commitment to Halal is reflected by the invitation they have extended to us and we are extremely honoured to be a part of this initiative. We feel that this is a best practice that should be adopted across the F&B industry. From this tour, we have established that Cadbury chocolates made in Malaysia are in accordance with the strict guidelines laid out by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS). In Cadbury’s manufacturing plant, a lot of attention is paid to the entire production process to ensure cleanliness of both machines and handling of raw materials, so that they are no chances of irregularities. We were also informed that 80% of the staff at the manufacturing plant are Muslims and some of them have been working in the factory for more than 20 years. I think it is important to note that the brand will continue to work very closely with the relevant authorities to ensure the required quality processes are continued to be met." added Ustaz Dr. Zaharuddin.

"Consumers should not jump to conclusions without verifying the facts. Even if there is an opportunity for doubt, one should raise it to the relevant authority that is JAKIM who are the highest halal certification authority and regulator on halal guidelines in Malaysia." said YBhg Dato' Dr Maamor bin Osman.

"We are honoured by this visit to our chocolate manufacturing plant in Shah Alam. Our commitment to Halal is also reflected by having in place, an internal halal committee for 14 years now. The committee comprises senior Muslim executives who have been trained by HDC, the marketing arm of JAKIM on halal procedures and processes. As Chairman of the Cadbury Internal Halal committee, I oversee all aspects of manufacturing, including standard operating procedures, people management and training, equipment maintenance, and handling of materials are strictly met in accordance to JAKIM's Halal guidelines." said En Mohamed Yaccob Khan, Plant Manager, Cadbury Confectionery Malaysia.

"The observations shared by the leaders today reaffirm what we have believed all along - that the chocolates we make and sell in Malaysia are halal. While JAKIM has already confirmed our Halal status, this additional endorsement by Malaysia's respected Islamic leaders affirms our commitment to the cultural and religious interests of Muslims in Malaysia. This visit is timely and also relevant in highlighting that the Cadbury production plant in Malaysia adheres to the strictest hygiene, quality and safety standards," En. Yaccob continued.

At Cadbury, halal is a non-negotiable top priority, and the company is committed to earn consumers' trust with safe products of the highest quality. Cadbury is Malaysia's best-selling chocolate brand and is consumed by a third of Malaysian households. Cadbury chocolates have been manufactured in Malaysia for over 40 years under Cadbury Confectionery Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

Before the start of the press conference, the religious leaders also took a moment of silence to offer prayers to the families and friends of those on board the Malaysian Airlines passenger MH17 flight.

Background

On Friday, 23 May 2014, posts on social media revealed that two variants of Cadbury chocolates – Cadbury Dairy Milk Hazelnut 175g (with batch number 200813M01H I2 that expires on November 13, 2014) and Cadbury Dairy Milk Roast Almond 175g (with batch number 221013N01R I1 that expires on Jan 15, 2015) – analysed by the Ministry of Health tested positive for traces of porcine DNA.

Throughout this period, Cadbury has continued to stand by its halal certification.

Cadbury Malaysia berbesar hati menerima kunjungan:

  • Al Fadil YBhg Datuk Nooh Gadot, Bekas Mufti Johor dan Majlis agama Johor
  • Ustaz Haji Mohd Shukri bin Ali, Bekas Pegawai Agama kepada Istana DYMM Sultan Terengganu (Kini sedang bercuti belajar)
  • Ustaz Dr. Hj. Zaharuddin Hj. Abd. Rahman, Presiden, Multaqa Asatizah & Du'at (Kesatuan Ilmuwan Islam dan Pendakwah)

Cadbury:
Our Chocolates Are Halal

PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA – June 3, 2014

Cadbury Malaysia today affirmed that all its chocolates made and sold in Malaysia are halal. This comes on the back of confirmation by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), which released official test results on the two affected batches yesterday.

"We at Cadbury Malaysia are happy to confirm what we have believed all along – that the chocolates we make and sell in Malaysia are halal," said Sunil Sethi, Managing Director, Mondelez Malaysia. "Having operated in Malaysia for over 40 years, nothing is more important to us than our consumers' trust. We intend to put this incident behind us and focus on spreading joy which is at the heart of everything we do at Cadbury."

"While incidents such as this are unfortunate, we are grateful to the relevant authorities for clearing up the air and ensuring that future abnormalities in their test results would be verified internally before making them public," Sunil continued.

All of Cadbury's products manufactured and sold in Malaysia are in alignment with JAKIM's halal guidelines. JAKIM is the highest halal certification authority and regulator on halal guidelines in Malaysia, and is the only body in Malaysia tasked with ensuring products with the halal logo are permissible by Islamic law.

Sunil added, "We understand the importance of ensuring that the cultural and religious interests of all Malaysians are met. Muslims make up the majority of the population in Malaysia, which is why halal is and always will be our non-negotiable top priority."

"We have established an Internal Halal Committee (IHC) since we were certified in 2004 to demonstrate our commitment towards halal. Our employees are trained on the requisite certification."

Cadbury will continue to work very closely with the relevant authorities and observe the required quality processes internally.
